With the cost of electricity increasing every year, it may be time for you to replace your domestic kitchen appliances with energy saving models.

If your appliance isn't energy efficient, then it's wasting electricity and your money. An energy efficiency recommended washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer etc will cost you at least a third less electricity than a standard model.

Old litchen appliances cost more to run than new ones which are designed to be energy saving. So when buying a new machine make sure it has an energy rating of 'A' it may cost a little bit more but will save you so much money it will be well worth it.

Buying a new Energy Efficiency Recommended fridge can save you up to £45 a year on your electricity bill which is also a substantial reduction on your carbon footprint.

Discounts on fridges and washing machines

Discounts on A-rated energy efficient fridges and washing machines are available via a scheme being run by TXU and Currys. The scheme is open to all and may provide a discount of between £30 - £100 on various brands.

Households in the UK spend about £1.2 billion worth of electricity every year on refrigeration alone.

Dishwashers

Try and use the low temperature programme, and ensure you wash a full load and not a half load or less.

Kettles

Only ever heat the amount of water you really need and de-scale the kettle as often as possible. Your can also now buy energy efficient kettles which use less power and will help you save on your electric bill.

Washing Machines and Tumble Dryers

Always wash a full load and if you can't use a half load or economy programme. Try washing using a low temperature like 30 degrees. Before putting your clothes in the tumble dryer make sure you have spun them on a high spin speed in the washing machine so the drying time in the tumble dryer will be less.
